Birds and Beasts Records was founded to release music written and produced by musician, songwriter and producer Leo Brazil.
Operating from Leo’s home studio in West Yorkshire, the label has quickly grown into a platform for a steady stream of projects and collaborations reflecting his wide-ranging creative vision.

The label’s first release, Tiger Inside, was a collaboration with Yorkshire blues supergroup Wadcutter Blues. The track reimagined one of Leo’s early songs to mark twenty years of songwriting and was described by Local Sound Focus as “a storming slab of blues rock… guaranteed to leave you grinning.”

The second release, Alone, saw Leo take a completely solo approach — performing every instrument himself and exploring a mellow, lo-fi acoustic indie-folk sound. Described by Click Roll Boom as “emotionally raw and brilliantly crafted,” the album arrived in March 2026, supported by live shows and radio play.

Never one to take things too seriously, Leo celebrated Halloween with the release of Bats, bats, BATS!!! — a playful burst of spooky psychedelia accompanied by a self-produced and delightfully eccentric video.

Collaboration is a hallmark of Birds and Beasts Records. Leo joined forces with rising folk outfit Hebble for a quartet version of a live favourite from his solo sets: the banjo-led foot-tapper “Don’t Start.”

Leo also writes and produces for the new band Bone Wars, who have begun releasing singles from a debut album slated for summer 2026. Combining intense improvisational psychedelic rock with songs exploring the history of paleontology and a shared obsession with dinosaurs, the band has been described by The Big Takeover as:
“Forward-thinking, fresh and familiar and soaked in lysergic trippiness — the perfect blend of occident and orient, eastern spice and western groove.”

With a growing reputation built on releases, homemade music videos and support slots, Bone Wars are quickly developing a name for themselves.
Projects planned for 2026 include a follow-up to Alone that ventures into electronic music, further collaborations, and the continued development of a children’s music project currently evolving behind the scenes.

With a fierce commitment to the DIY ethos, every Birds and Beasts Records release features artwork and music videos created by Leo Brazil at home using experimental film and animation.
